Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi All,

This is my first post and I'm awful glad I found this site.

I've been searching online for some avionics (aircraft radios, GPS, etc.). I've been scammed at least once so far, but thankfully never gave them any money.

Avionics are not cheap! Even used and several years old. Prices for the Garmin GPS + Communication radios I've been looking for, though not even made for the last few years, run from $5K to $10K. I suppose it's a fertile field for scammers.

During a recent Google search I found a "Company"? in Jakarta, Indonesia, that supposedly sells surveying equipment as their main purpose, but had a pair of the radios I've been looking for also for sale. The price was quite good--a few thousand less than would be expected to pay in the U.S. Of course, the demand in that part of the world is much lower also.

I've had a few emails back and forth getting some additional information. I asked for pictures showing the Garmin labels with model numbers, serial numbers, etc. They sent good close ups of the labels right away, so I think they must really be in possession of the radios. They said they would ship them by DHL, insured and delivery would be in about 10 days. (Included in price.)

Now they want me to do a bank transfer to them ($8,000) and have said they will ship as soon as received. I'm a bit apprehensive.

This is their web address: http://suearihpringgan.com/

Please, what are your thoughts, advice, etc.?

Thanks very much.

scammers sell products at highly discounted rates, because there really is no product there to start with. He could have gotten serial #'s from anywhere. Did you call Garmin to see if that serial # is reported stolen or still unregistered?? If not, call Garmin immediately. ( this will still not guarantee delivery of the product you ordered, it will only show if it is stolen or not).

the domain itself is at best highly suspect. They claim to have been in business since 2000, but did not get the domain till 2013?? this is not the 90's anymore...
This company has been established in 2000 based Indonesia.

The web site itself looks like my 5th grader could have done a better job with it, very amateurish.

The fact that they want a T/T transfer to pay for it, when you have absolutely zero recourse of getting your money back after sending your money that way is an absolute "NO WAY" and deal breaker. Real businesses take credit cards, and many other means of payment. An internet based site needs to do the same, regardless of what country it is based in.

I am not an expert on the prices of total stations (I've been surveying for less than a year), but I did just get home from bushwhacking to clear a line of sight from one traverse point to another traverse point. I would not buy a total station from a faraway country. I would buy one that I could see in person.

A store in Indonesia would not have a website only in English or prices only in dollars. An Indonesian company would not register with an English registrar and host the site in Georgia, USA. A legitimate site of any sort wouldn't leave coding cruft all over the place.

If you find out that the serial number is stolen, do not tell the site that. Simply cut off contact. Post the message saying that the number is stolen, so that we can use it as evidence to kill the site, but don't tell the people who run the site, or they'll just steal another serial number.

Their company name Google's up nothing but that website and a Google plus profile . That would be highly unusual for a company in business 15 years . The address which was not showing on my mobile device appears to be fake and its privacy protected also . Definate Scam .
