I searched for an answer to my queries before I posted this; and now, once again, I just hope I'm posting in the proper place to get answers. I'll give it a go and see!

1. Where can I find a directory of IP Address locations? IE. Somebody sent me yet another scam today and the header reveals the originating IP Address to be: 67.15.221.2 - How can I determine, generally and/or specifically, where this is from?

2. How can I be certain that somebody will not use my IP Address, as located in the header of MY email to them, to access my computer via my broadband connection?

3. I read within SW that any free email service will suffice. Ergo are AOL (free service is actually AIM but still part of AOL) and YAHOO fine to use as they are free?

4. Are there any services that I could use whereby the IP Address is completely hidden, and yet in doing so not raise any "red flags" with the scammers of the evil empire?

Any additional information concerning IP Addresses including, but not limited to, links to specific site locations where topic is discussed, the more detail the better. :? As always, I GREATLY appreciate any and all help I can get from anybody! I can assure you, the knowledge you impart will not be wasted!

Hi WPL, to check the IP addresses in headers, I always use this header tool:

http://headertool.apelord.com

Simply paste the complete headers in to the box on that page and submit it, you will then get a page with the IP addresses and the country from where it originated, the IP of the sender is usually the IP at the bottom of the results page.

If you want to hide your IP address, don't use Yahoo, Hotmail etc, they will show it, get yourself a free email address from Gmail:

Gmail Email

Gmail strips the IP address of the sender, in place of it, they replace it with the gmail/Google IP, so you cannot be traced as long as you use fake details when registering your account.

That ^^^ is also the solution to your question "2", as your IP will be hidden, not that you should worry about someone accessing your computer through your IP address.

As per my advice on your other topic, you can learn all you ever need to know about scambaiting and remaining anonymous online, by reading on the 419eater forum, we cover all sorts of topics on their:

Hi Sophocles, the email doesn't contain the IP address, the "headers" of the email shows those details, tell us which email client you are receiving the scam emails at, Yahoo, Hotmaill etc, nd we will tell you how to get the headers to post here.

MAIL.COM HEADERS:

To view headers for an email in Mail.com the first thing you have to do is view the email you wish to trace, from your inbox, click on the specific email you want.

Then just above the main body of the email you will see a link saying 'Show Full Headers' see image example below:

Once this link has been clicked the email will refresh. Once it has refreshed the entire header for that email will appear above the main body of the email.

YAHOO HEADERS:

The process of viewing the headers of an email in Yahoo is very simple. First of all click on the email you wish to trace in your inbox; when the email loads up you will see a 'Full Headers' link in bottom right hand corner of the email window as shown below:

Image

Once you have clicked on this link the full headers for the email will appear along with main body of the email at the top of the window. The headers will look like this below.

Simply copy and paste here, the headers from the scam email you are enquiring about.
