My sister has been texting this so called Doctor that said he lives & works in Africa, promised he would visit her last year. She texts him everyday & night depending on the time. I tried to tell her, but...of course doesn't want to hear. Recently he had her open an bank account and she receives checks from him and he allows her to take $100. out of each check for herself. He has convinced her that they are engaged, she has bought herself her own engagement ring because he said to. After a year now, she has a special phone that she has finally heard his voice, she says he's french and is Antigen (?) he has a son in boarding school in Australia that will be graduating - she wants the son to come live with her !! Also, the picture of this person is one that is posted on your web page as a scam picture (Eddy Brooks post) . I have tried repeatedly to convince her, but she is so interested in needing Love. She does not want to speak to me anymore. I am concerned more & more about her, She lives in a different state than I. Not sure what to do???

Welcome to Scamwarners,

Is this the thread >> viewtopic.php?f=13&t=60997 you are talking about?

Unfortunately there is not much you can do if she will not listen to you. These scammers mentally abuse their victims with lack of sleep, food and every day life. He will separate her from friends and family. He will tell her not to believe anyone but him. Everyone else is trying to separate them.

He may have a French accent. Some W. African countries primary language is French.

If I posted the correct link, you can send that to her and these two.

The checks that she has received are most likely fakes (it's possible they are real and are being sent by victims of other scams), and eventually (possibly after many months) the banks will discover the checks are fake and reverse the payments.

In the best case scenario, your sister will lose the money that she sent to the scammer, plus whatever fees the bank add on. In the worst case, she could be charged with wire fraud or money laundering.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
