I meet a woman and she's trying to scam me. This was her email to me.

Hi Carl,

How are you? Thank you for your email.

Let me tell you something about myself. I studied hotel management in Switzerland and have been working in hotel industry for 15 years. I worked in China before but due to my grandmother's sick, I back to Hong Kong to look after her. I am trying to look for the job in Hong Kong now.

I was born in a broken family. My mother ran away when I was child, my grandmother who took care of me since then. I didn't see my mother for 25 years and don't know where she is. My late father married again twice and I have 2 step-brothers. My childhood was very unhappy. I still live with my grandmother as she is 98 years old, I need to spend more time with her.

I like cooking, swimming, watching movies, and travelling. I have been to many countries such as Western Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and China. I hope I will have chances to visit Eastern Europe and Northern Europe in future.

I am single and never married. I don't have kids. I am an easy going and honest person, very straight forward and take everything I do and and say seriously. I hate lying and people who cheat. I like people who take me serious and the way I am. Sometimes very emotional when I realize I am being taken for a ride.

What do you do for living? Do you have kids? Can you tell me why you divorced if you don't mind?

I too have had man contact me that claims to be in the US Army in Afghanistan he asked that I send a request for his leave to come home to meet me. this is the address he had me email the request to....

armyoffice@usa.com

I have felt suspicious since we first started talking and I told him that. One time I told him I thought he was a scammer...that I believed there is actually a Sgt. Major Terry Wood and I have photo's as well but I did not believe he is actually Sgt.Maj. Wood.
I chat with him online via yahoo im and his screen name is terrywood317. it is also his email address @yahoo.com

Anyone have any suggestions as how to catch this guy if he is scamming people?

i wish I could post a photo that this guy sent me of him. I wish it was really him but I am doubtful. I wonderhow many other woman out there are getting the same photos sent to them?
Also is there a way I can verify if there is actually a Sgt. Major Terry Wood that is in the US Army and stationed in Afghanistan?

Thanks

Welcome dreamangel,

For starters, I want to make sure that anyone who reads this understands: There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever. You are dealing with a scammer, plain and simple.

Whether there is a real soldier named Terry Wood doesn't impact whether this is a scam. The moment he asked you to request leave for him, he showed himself to be an African scammer, not an American soldier.

Individuals from outside the US military do not request leave (or anything else for that matter) for soldiers, period. Soldiers MUST request leave for themselves, and they are only eligible for it if they have earned it (e.g. they are eligible for a certain amount of leave based on time served.) Sometimes scammers will tell you this is a new policy. Those who understand how the US military works will understand that this will NEVER be policy--it goes completely against the basic principles on which the military organizational structure is designed. This policy is entirely an invention of scammers.

Even if the policy were real (which, as I said above, will never be true), the real US military would use official email addresses, not free email addresses (such as those provided by usa.com).

The US military (and many individual soldiers) are very aware of these scams, and the use of soldiers' photos in them. Unfortunately, there is not much they can do. They have posted several warnings about these scams. Scammers have stolen the photos from the internet, and have saved them--there is no way to recall them. In addition, because the scammers are not in the US at all (most often they are in Africa or Malaysia, where a large cell of Nigerian scammers is operating), the US government does not have jurisdiction, and cannot locate or act against them without the cooperation of another country's government, which is difficult and expensive to arrange.

You can see instructions for posting photos in my signature line.

I have given him a rough time about providing me with a AKO. I also have told him if I find him to not be who he claims to be I will hunt him down and beat him. Of course I know its impossible for me to do but I can at least say it.
He says I'm a a civilian so I don't understand how things work...LOL...and I said, what I am is a smart woman with access to information! :=) After that comment he disappeared.
I'd like to catch all the scamers posing as American Soldiers and beat them within a inch of their lives. I have visions of little Dot Headed men sitting around computers day and night in a room praying on woman in America.
The other thought is these toad stools are likely using the money that woman send to finance the war against our troops..... Shame on them.....I saybring our Troops home then Bomb them all and let God sort them out over there.

Thank you for the info you passed on to me. I will gladly send the pic's to you if you want to post them so others can be aware.

law wrote:Hi, I almost sent money to Peter Harrinson he told me he was fixing to go to the front line at Afganistan and I could save him by sending $960.00 to Western Union for a replacement. Thank God I found your site I was actually thinking of sending it. He told me I could pay 200.00$ and he would pay the rest when he gets here. Well that raised my flag because people overseas use the $ in the back. So I got worried and started looking then I saw the address here that is on the leave papers and also saw his Lt. col. Robert Gonazlez name on your site. So what do we about these liars. No one should allowed to disgrace our military they should be prosecuted to the fullest.

has happen to me I'm new here and ny heart is ........made in pieces....Sent leave money glad was not much , but the worst part is the pain one feels inside, I never ever cried so much in my life. This ''thing' i call should not even exist m using soldiers names to get money...I'm devastated......I love a soldier that does NOT REALLY love me because he wa just a photo......so sad from ver_sad.....I'm more than broke hearted......

Thank Goodness this site is available. I happened to stumble across it today and I am happy I did.

First of all Ladies, none of us should be so gullible that we need to believe a man online is in love with us without having met us first.
If you'd met him in person and on the 1st date he proclaimed his love for you , you would have flipped out,,,,right??? We have to use the same common sense online that we use in person.

If he loves you, wants to marry you after a few chats or emails ......RUN
If he wants you to send him or give him money....RUN

We can find plenty of free loaders in person, we sure don't need to meet them online too.

Save your money or give it to a charity but don't send it to these men that are blowing hot air up your shorts and skirts. :yikes:

basically I think they pray on those of us who have profiles on online dating sites. Lets get real, if we got out from behind our pc's and got out more we'd likely meet a real man. If he is sitting behind a pc all day chatting chance are he has no friends and isn't someone we'd want to meet or be around. So go to the mall, go shopping with your best friend, go out to lunch , dinner , breakfast do something that gets you out there so you can actually meet someone. :D

carol g wrote:Hello to everyone on here. I live in the UK and have been scammed by a person called Mark Boers on the Heartdetectives site!!!! This, according to google, and my experience, is a scam dating website so beware.
I reported Mark Boers to them on numerous occasions, even giving them the police file number I have for him, but to this day he is still on there  He is a very manipulative person, got me by sending lots of lovely emails saying how wonderful I was, how he loved me, was going to retire and relocate to England and he also said he was widowed and has a 14 year old son............. He said he was in Afghan on a military peace mission and could not get leave unless it was requested by his wife (who was dead???) or his fiance (which he asked me to say i was to get him leave before xmas) I stupidly fell for is, I had put £20 of credit on his mobile phone (which was an 02 sim card) the number was 07510835343. I rang it when I started to suspect he was not for real and it had a foreign ring tone but he never answered, saying he could not receive calls because of security!!!!!!!!
I had an email from an address defenceleave@mail2army.com (which is NOT a real US army email) asking me personal questions, which I answered and emailed back to them.................then came the email saying that I would have to pay £300 for him to get leave???????
So I contacted a friend and he looked on google and told me that it was all a scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was really upset at first but then very angry at this man, using a picture of an army officer as bait to scam money from vulnerable women, like me.
When I let him know that I knew he turned nasty calling me a "poor bitch"???????????????????? I deleted him from my emails and contacted the police, who contacted crime stoppers. I spoke with both and because of this they put a press release out in a local paper..................hence yesterday the BBC (an English tv channel) came to my home yesterday and I was filmed for a programme called "Inside Out" which is going to be aired on Monday the 14th Feb (valentives day ironically) I was embarrassed doing this but if it helps people to be made aware of these horrid people (who the police say come from Nigeria) then it will e worth it.
Because I knew what signs to look for after the Mark fiasco I started chatting to another one called Howard A who appeared on my facebook "who is near" site (they pop up everywhere)
So yesterday during filming at my home, luckily he came on line and guess what????? Asked me for £500 to be sent to him through something called g mail?????, I was suppose to go to the post office and send it to an address, the tv guys have taken all the details from my laptop to use to investigate the address.......We got him good and proper for all to see on tv.................wow it made me feel better to scam a scammer :laugh-s:
By the was Howard A is aka capt.howardalksninis@yahoo.com and Mark is boers321@yahoo.com or markboers@yahoo.co.uk........................so dont be fooled, these guys are NOT from the US army and apparently the REAL US Army are NOT impressed by these scammers and they want to talk to me??????? So I will keep you all posted.
Thank you for reading.
p.s. I have gone on my "my space" on facebook and looked at the female friends he has and emailed them to let them know he is a scammer. :laugh-s: x

Watch for pictures being used of real soldiers but not the ones emailing back and forth. Do afull header view, and copy and past in verify email. It will tell you where it comes from

I am reading the above post but can't seem to understand exactly what the poster is telling me - us to do with the photo's. Can someone please explain it better.?

Also I sent off an email to terry.wood@us.army.mil so far I haven't received a message that the email is not deliverable.
I am starting to feel like a detective.
I will keep you posted if I receive a email from the real Terry Wood.
