dI’ve been chatting with this guy for almost a month. We met on Chemistry.com. He claims to be Italian born and moved to US after his mother died when he was 19 to live with his father. He says he is a Graduate Gemologist from Michigan State. He claims to own a house and live in Dallas, TX and to own a jewelry shop in the area. He goes by Andrea (Luca Pecci) Rossi and states he’s been divorced for 10 yrs. Says his wife left him after he caught her with his former best friend/ business partner. He says he has a 19-year-old son, Leslie, and even sent some pictures after I asked. We have been exchanging emails and pictures and talking some via phone. He has a thick accent but it does not sound Italian. I contact him via justsmile212@yahoo.com. Last week he started telling me how a "jerk lawyer" was threatening himself and his son and he even says that he was attacked by 4 men who came into his shop and held a gun to his head and threatened to kidnap or kill his son if he continued to try to claim his father's inheritance. He said his father died 7 yrs ago without a will, thus this mess. Also said the "jerk lawyer's" secretary secretly met with him and gave him copies of the papers he needed and he had to rush to Amsterdam to see his father's former business partners to get his inheritance. Once in Amsterdam, he was told he needed to go to Ghana to file the necessary papers. Now he is "in Ghana" and wants me to pick him up some clothes and shoes as he had not packed for a trip to Ghana and only has a suit. When I explained I didn't have the money to buy him clothes he asked if he had the store send the clothes to my address if I would mail them to him in Ghana. He also wants me to buy him some rather expensive Nike sneakers and bath gel and sunscreen and ship all this to Ghana. The phone numbers he uses: Ghana cell - 233541097595 (which he says he had to buy as his phone doesn't work in Ghana) and US number of 315-307-0503 (actually a land line in Syracuse NY). Good thing I decided to research him a little further! His story turned up almost word-for-word on a couple of other scam sites, he is just using different pictures now.

Sadly, he deleted his profile from Chemistry.com saying He had met "the one". But I have posted some of the emails/headers he sent to me.

I too enjoyed spending quality time with you last night, did you had a good sleep? I went to sleep smiling because am finally getting to chat with someone. It's been along time since i had a real conversation like what we had last night, you sound very refreshing and i really would love to keep you forever.

I enjoy watching action/adventure movie, horror, country western, animation and few of romantic movies. How about you? what sort of music do you listen to? Are you a good dancer? It's nice hearing from you this morning, i was starting to think maybe you were no longer interested because i called you several times and no answer. I hope you are having a productive day and that everything is fine with you. My weekend was great even though it was quiet due to the problem am dealing with concerning my inheritance. I hope i have not bothered you with it since i shared with you. I just wanted to be upfront with you that's all, because i can longer keep anything away from since it feels like we have known each other for a long time. It's nice hearing from you, I really need a shoulder to lean on right now, My day started with the thoughts of you on my mind and a big grin on my face but its becoming awful right now because early this morning i had four men came into my office to threaten me, they pointed a gun at my forehead and warned me to stay away from the jerks way other than that they wouldn't spare me the next time. I had to struggle with them but that wasn't enough, they torn my shirt and rushed out before the Police came in but most importantly i had them on the security cameras. I have never seen them before, they even broke the front glass at my shop, which i still have the men here fixing it. I have decided to leave here early today.

Of course the header you posted traces to Ghana--so it is safe to assume that is where the person who has been writing to you actually lives. The English mistakes (when he actually writes instead of copying from somewhere, that is) are typical of an African.

I see he also surfs some of the same sites as many other scammers!

He didn't delete his profile. Any time you are in contact with someone and his profile disappears, you should be on the lookout for other signs of a scam. Scammer profiles are constantly being deleted, and scammers almost always use the same "because I found you" story to explain it. There are 3 possible (and common) scenarios behind his disappearing profile: (a) he was reported by one or more of the other women he tried to scam; (b) he was on a trial free membership and it expired (though he probably tried to pick up dozens of victims in that short time); (c) The stolen credit card he used for the membership was reported, and chemistry immediately closed his profile.

Since he presumably has your real life information, we recommend you dropping contact with him. No need for an explanation, just cut off contact and move on.

315 telephone numbers, including Syracuse ones, are available as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) numbers. From a website advertising them:

So his US telephone number might actually have been routed to Ghana, as well.

I am the next one attempted to be scammed. He has never told me his last name. I just took a guess and Googled him. He has yet to ask me for anything. He uses the phone number: 315-307-0503. The email he is using is: andrear219@yahoo.com. I have been trying to look up information about him, but nothing has turned up until today, thank goodness. The emails he has sent me have the same wording and some of the same phrases as was shown in the previous post. He claims to be a gemologist from Brooklyn, N.Y. He claims to have a son. Leslie, who is in his first year of college. He also says he has been divorced for 10 years and that he caught his wife with his accountant/best friend. I am from Michigan and went to Michigan State. He has never mentioned anything about that. I met him on JMatch.com. I started communicating with him about 4 weeks ago, August, 2010. So, I guess I'm the next one in this scam. As for the phone calls, he does have an accent, but it does not sound Italian, where he claims to have been born and brought up. The photos are the same, except for the one that was on the email he sent to me on JMatch. When asked about the different pic, he claims he doesn't understand. I think he is still listed on JMatch. I'm just very thankful I found this today, and not months from now! Thank you for posting this!!!

I don't mean to be contrary beegold422 but to describe yourself as the 'next one' is to underestimate how these scammers operate. They will never plan to have just one victim, and have been known to actually chat with several targets at the same time. It's no surprise that they confuse themselves and, like fishermen trying out different baits, they modify and improve their 'stories' all the time, hoping to make them more believable as time goes by.

The danger to any victim is to fall in love with the dream and to enjoy living the dream as a pleasure and end in itself, but the dream only lasts as long as the first money demand is met and future ones as well. These people are professional scammers, if not always very competent, and their feelings and emotions aren't involved, which is why they most frequently copy and paste their flowery words from sources elsewhere.

Thank you for your post. You explained it better than I expressed it. I think you are correct in that many people fall for this type of scam due to being in love "with the dream". There are a lot of lonely and desperate people in the world today. And, a lot of scammers waiting to take advantage of that. It's always better to be careful than sorry!! You made a good point!

Just an update. Since this last post, I was able to confirm that the emails from this "person" originated in Ghana. Also, as stated above, the phone number traces back to a land line in Syracuse, N.Y. I have received no communication from this "person" since posting on this website. Also, I have reported this profile to the dating website. I'm disappointed at the reply I received. At this time, they have no reason to take this profile as a scam or take action to remove the profile from the website. I do hope that, after looking at this thread, they will come to a different conclusion, and take this profile off the website before someone gets hurt.

I think I may be being scammed by this same person. Only I think this time they are posing or using women. I have been talking to a girl supposedly named Mararita Fabiano. Shes from Avon nc she says. She says that she moved here from ny a year ago and that her parents are dead. She has not asked for anything yet, but when I search for her in my state, there is nothing. Her email is listed in Irvine, CAlifornia. But what caught my attention was the telephone number she said was a cell number. I searched it and found it was actualy a landline in Syracus NY. I don't know if this is a scam or not but it is one heck of a coincidence. the number is 315-307-0503. The same as what you have listed here. If anyone has imformation on this I would greatly appreciate it.

That provider is the key piece. Ymax is the creator of magicjack, something we are increasingly seeing abused by scammers. The same number makes it a virtual certainty that you are dealing with a scammer. The most likely scenario is that the scammer has gotten hold of a magicjack and is using it to pretend he is in the US. If the email traces to California, I am guessing that "she" is using gmail. Gmail does not show the original IP address, only the address of google's servers--so you can't use the IP to trace location.

If you could post "her" first couple of emails here, or if you are uncomfortable with that, forward to my email below, we can confirm that you are dealing with a scammer.
